AutoCoco
The choice of potting medium that can be used with the AutoPot products is wide and varied. Many growers choose a medium which best suits the plants in question. This and the growers personal preference are the main deciding factors. For the majority of plants a compost/soil with sufficient capillary action, good air retention, drainage and with a stable pH of between 6-7 will always ensure that the plants in the AutoPot products grow with vigour. Over the years many different mediums, soils & composts have been used with excellent results. These include multi purpose & peat free composts, special soil blends, coconut, perlite, vermiculite, rockwool and combinations of them all.
Over the last several years AutoPot has designed a medium, AutoCoco incorporating Nutrimate. Nutrimate is blended with AutoCoco and helps the roots absorb food more effectively. Photosynthesis is also improved allowing increased growth rates in low light conditions. AutoCoco is environmentally friendly and has many advantages and benefits compared with it’s alternatives. It does not compress when in use, retaining an abundance of air around the root zone, unlike peat that compresses very quickly. AutoCoco is also totally organic. Coconut is produced from the pith that is found in between the coconut husk and the coconut. It is then ground up and washed to ensure that it is free from any sodium or chloride. All AutoCoco is also analysed before it is bagged up and sold to the customer, ensuring that it is ready for use straight away.
As all of the AutoPot watering systems are some of the most effective and environmentally friendly systems in the world. We thought that it made sense to create a medium that was in keeping with our beliefs. The coconut once harvested will grow again the following year. Where as peat once harvested will take 1000,s of years to replenish. AutoCoco has been used and trialled at many nurseries and in 2006 at the Eden Project in the United Kingdom. The results spoke for themselves. AutoCoco will once again be used at the Eden Project in 2007, photos and video footage will be placed on the website to keep you up to date.
The combination of AutoCoco and Nutrimate, (Complete Management System) offers the grower the following advantages:
